THE SYSTEM FOR PREVENTING AND COMBATING THE ISSUANCE OF CHEQUES WITHOUT SUFFICIENT FUNDS

Cheques occupy an important position in commercial and civil transactions and must therefore be protected in a manner that preserves their legal validity. Under Algerian law, the drawer of a cheque that is not backed by sufficient funds may incur criminal liability; however, such liability arises only after a series of procedures have been completed. Responsibility for carrying out these procedures has been assigned to banks, the Public Treasury, and the financial services of Algérie Poste, with the aim of preventing and reducing the issuance of cheques without sufficient funds.
