Cena populizma: povezava med neposredno izvoljenimi župani in stroški enot na lokalni ravni upravljanja

Videti je, da so neposredno izvoljeni župani dejansko postali moderni. Vendar pa se je ob tem le redko kdo ustavil in razmislil o finančnem vplivu neposredno izvoljenih županov na lokalno raven upravljanja: iz Avstralije in Nove Zelandije dejansko ni nikakršnih dokazov in velik del razpoložljivih podatkov je že precej zastarel. Analizirali smo petletne podatke za Novi Južni Wales v Avstraliji in našli dokaze močnih in statistično pomembnih povečanih odhodkov iz poslovanja enot na lokalnih ravneh upravljanja, kjer se uporablja model neposredno izvoljenih županov. V zaključku smo predstavili učinek, ki ga ima ta povezava lahko na trajnost lokalnih ravni upravljanja.
