Since the French occupation of El-mania area in 1884, France began the actual planning to occupy the region of Tidikelt. It sent many expeditions to check and investigate the situation there, such as the Flamand. One of the motives that made France plan to take control over Tidikelt was the important geographical location, trade and security importance. The region witnessed many battles fought by the inhabitants of the surrounding areas against the French colonizer with limited means and traditional equipments; such as the battles
