Abstract

This study explores the impact of teacher praise and positive reinforcement on student motivation in middle school settings. As students navigate the academic, emotional, and social transitions of early adolescence, maintaining engagement and motivation becomes increasingly challenging. This research investigates how verbal praise, recognition, and tangible rewards from teachers influence students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through classroom observations, student surveys, and teacher interviews in selected middle schools. The findings reveal that consistent and specific praise, when coupled with positive reinforcement strategies, significantly enhances students' motivation, classroom participation, and academic performance. Furthermore, the study highlights that positive teacher-student interactions foster a supportive learning environment that encourages self-efficacy and goal-oriented behavior. These results underscore the importance of incorporating intentional praise and reinforcement techniques in pedagogical practices to support adolescent learners' academic growth and emotional well-being.
