Abstract

This paper designs and confirms a holistic approach in explaining the pathways to academic success through a combination of institutional resource, humanistic learning environment and student involvement in a Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) framework. Going beyond the traditional resource-based accounts, the study examines the direct effect of a positive and person-focused climate, i.e., the focus on positive teacher-student relationships, psychological safety, and pedagogical care, on academic performance as well as the indirect effect of the climate, i.e., the effect mediated by student engagement.
