One significant aspect of traditional Kerala society was its agrarian socio-economic structure. Several land tenures, including Janmam, Kanam, and Verumpattom, were prevalent in Malabar and were linked to Kerala's agrarian life. This again illustrates Kerala's social stratification. Agrarian relations were formed and shaped similarly to the traditional caste system in the society.
