Urbanization and population growth present significant challenges for local self
governments in rapidly expanding
cities. The pressure on infrastructure, housing, public services, and the environment requires innovative approaches
to governance. This paper explores the role of local self governments in managing these challenges through
effective urban planning, resource management, and citizen engagement. The study analyze s case studies from cities
that have successfully addressed urbanization related issues and identifies key strategies for managing population
growth sustainably. The research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys, interviews,
and case study analysis. Findings suggest that proactive urban planning, effective use of technology, and public
private partnerships are essential to manage rapid urban growth. The paper also highlights the importance of
sustainable development policies, such as green spaces, affordable housing, and improved public transportation.
However, barriers such as political resistance, insufficient funding, and social inequality often hinder effective
implementation. The paper concludes with recommendations for e nhancing the capacity of local governments to
manage urbanization and population growth, ensuring more resilient and livable cities.
